Wool in Schools

Our mobile “Wool Sheds” travel the length of New Zealand teaching primary and intermediate school children about the wonders of wool. Kids learn about wool processes, innovative thinking, design, and technology and they’ll have lots of fun along the way.

Our Wool in Schools initiative aims to help primary school children understand wool’s place in our lives, and why it should be part of our future.

We have created lots of fun resources to support the New Zealand curriculum. These resources can be tailored to different primary aged groups and have a range of applications across primary and intermediate classes, including science, technology, mathematics, economics, history, english, and art.

Our secondary school programme is currently under development! Stay tuned for the release of our programme in 2024!

The Wool Shed

We have two converted shipping containers travelling to primary and  intermediate schools across the North and South Islands of New Zealand.

These containers spend one to two weeks with each school during term time.  We provide your teachers with a comprehensive set of workbooks prior to the container arriving to help your school plan your time with the container.  Note: The containers do not come with a wool educator – we leave that to you as you know how your school likes to learn.

We handle all the logistics including shipping to and from your school.  We’ll help you choose the best site on your grounds.

If you are a teacher or principal, register your interest and one of our team will be in touch to let you know when the Wool Shed is available in your area.

It couldn’t be easier!

How much does it cost?

It’s free!
Inspiring our children with knowledge about wool is our goal. If wool is going to be a part of their future, they need to start learning about the fibre early. The Campaign for Wool is a not-for-profit charity and this initiative is one of the many things we do to ensure a bright future for New Zealand’s wool industry.

What activities are available?

We've done the planning for you!
The containers are packed to the brim with wool resources and activity planners to help teachers direct learning for their classes. You can download some activity ideas and resources below. Having the Wool Shed at your school is an easy way to get children out of the classroom learning new life skills.

Woolly Resources

We have a NEW resource book that travels with the Wool Shed.  If you have booked Wool in Schools, you will receive a copy.  Please contact our Wool in Schools Manager if you have any questions!

The fun fact sheets below will give you a small taster of the resources available and get you and your students in the wool vibe!
